Easy Steps to Replacing Your Motorcycle Grips
Bike hand grips are important as they help riders control the bike for a safe and comfortable ride. When motorcycle grips are worn out or get damaged, they need to be replaced or repaired immediately. If you are looking for an easy way to replace your motorcycle grips, you are on the right page. Continuing the discussion, this blog presents a step by step guide to replacing old motorcycle grips. Let’s take a look.

1. Slice Off the Old Grip

Slice off the old grip using a blade or hacksaw while exerting a little pressure on it. Always remember to cut the grips in a lengthwise direction. Make sure that you are not exerting too much pressure as it can lead to scratches on the metal handlebar beneath the grip. To avoid damaging the grips, slip a flathead screwdriver between the handlebar and the grip to take off the old grip.

2. Spray Cleaner

Use a spray cleaner, such as an adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol, to remove the leftovers of previous grips. Always be sure that the adhesive attached to the metal is gone before proceeding. Never use an oil-based lubricant to remove the adhesive. Using a lubricant will not give you a firm grip on the handlebars. Make sure the handlebar is dry and clean.

3. Install New Grips

Apply E-6000 grip glue inside the hand grip and on the handlebar. Slide the grip onto the handlebar quickly before the glue dries off. Keep pushing until the raised edge of the new grip is set even against the handlebar. When it’s secure and in place, squeeze the grip until the glue holds it firmly. Now, put the ends of the handlebars back to their place.

4. Wrap S.S. Wire

For better security, you can also wrap stainless steel lock wire around the grip and twist in tightly. This step will help to squeeze the rubber and create a seal to keep out moisture.

Final Word

Ensuring all parts are in optimum working condition is a must when buying a salvage motorcycle for sale from online motorcycle auctions. Simple repairs can help you to make your motorcycle fully functional while enhancing the handlebar grip. If you are looking to change the grips of your salvage motorcycle, consider the above-mentioned steps or hire a mechanic.
